August 2008

Dear Friend in Christ,

This is basically a summary of what we have been doing since January. Many events and blessings have been experienced. A verse from Psalm 107 comes to mind, "Oh, that men would praise the Lord for His goodness and His wonderful works to the children of men!"

FIRST - Trip to El Salvador:

  1. We drove the 3,500 miles through 4 countries. We arrived in time to celebrate the CAM churches annual convention with about 250 pastors and delegates in attendance. The report given for 2007 was that 3,780 persons made professions of faith with 2,096 having already been baptized. Thank the Lord.
  2. Gene taught in two different centers of the Bible Institute. The Book of Romans was taught at our CAM church Auditorio Cristiano. The doctrine of salvation was given at the Nazareth church on Saturday mornings. We're thankful for the opportunities.
  3. On Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, the Goshen First Baptist Church team arrived. They laid a floor in the newly constructed chapel on the camp grounds. Sylvia was kept busy buying food items, preparing meals and taking care of the teams needs at the Mission Home.
  4. Many items donated by the FBC missionary cupboard have already been distributed to some 25 pastors and families.
  5. On the trip back to US we visited our Biblical seminaries in Guatemala City (SETECA) and Chimaltenango (GBS). At GBS we support a Salvadoran student (formerly one of Sylvia's summer missionaries) who will be graduating this October. P.T.L.
  6. After our visiting we went on to beautiful Panajachel to enjoy a few days of relaxation. From there we drove around the volcanoes down to the coast road to Mexico. We spent three days driving through Mexico.

Our GMC van decided not to start after filling up in Indianapolis. Being Sunday we had to tow the vehicle to a local repair shop and wait until it was fixed on Monday. The starter motor had to be replaced. Thank the Lord it wasn't in the middle of Mexico.

SECOND – VBS:

  1. While we were in El Salvador, we had a chance to sit down with Manuel and Damaris Lopez (the couple that was left in charge of the vacation Bible schools). What a joy to see what the Lord has done through them for children. There were 12 "summer missionaries" who visited 18 different areas all over El Salvador. Over 2, 475 children were taught and 115 children made professions of faith. Thank the Lord with us for what has been accomplished. Pray for this year's plans and preparations.
  2. We still continue to promote this program in El Salvador. Our prayers go up for them daily as they are making preparations for this years Vacation Bible Schools and the training of summer missionaries. Our support and prayers aren't sufficient to cover the expenses for materials and training of the summer missionaries. More gifts and prayers are needed. Could you help this year?

There is a slip included with the address written at the bottom. It is a tax deductible gift.

THIRD - Family Matters:

  1. On March 22, 2008 Sylvia's father passed into the presence of the Lord. He was a teacher, pastor and missionary for many years with the American Missionary Fellowship (formerly the American Sunday School Union.

How glad we were that we had spent the week before with him. Our original plans were to visit him during the Easter weekend. It would have been terribly hard for Sylvia to find him that way. Thank the Lord we had some time with him. He seemed to be doing as well as a 95 year old could do.

  1. Sarah and Carlos are remodeling a home and living in it now (90%finished). Both have good jobs.
  2. Thanks for praying for Wanda who had dental surgery and a nerve was cut. Most of the feeling has been restored. She is looking for another apartment.
  3. Peter is keeping busy at his managerial job at Dairy Queen.
  4. Praise the Lord we are all in good health.

FOURTH - Ministries:

  1. Gene has taught in our newly founded Spanish Bible Institute. September starts a new teaching period. The subject will be the Doctrine of the Holy Spirit. We are trusting the Lord for at least 20 students.
  2. On every other Thursday Gene directs a Hispanic chapel service at Continental Industries, a factory in the area.

FIFTH - Prayer items:

August 10                - 45th wedding anniversary
August 30                - Miller family reunion (Gene's maternal side)
August 30                - Hispanic Women's Evangelistic Tea (Sylvia works with committee)
Perhaps 80 to 100 Hispanic women will be in attendance.
September                - Spanish Bible Institute resumes
September 20           - Gene's Goshen High School reunion
October 4                 - Lambright family reunion in Shipshewana, IN
October 19-26          - Missionary Conference in San Antonio, TX
Aug — Oct.                         - Chapel services at Continental Industries on Thursdays.

Appreciation:

We thank and praise the Lord for every one of you. Your faithful prayers and giving make all our service and ministries possible. Keep on Praying. The Lord's richest blessings be upon you, your families and your churches.

Because of His everlasting grace,

Gene & Sylvia Lambright
