Missionary Bio:
Alex grew up in a Hungarian-American home in Cleveland , Ohio . His grandparents emigrated from Hungary during WW I. His parents and grandparents were faithful believers, so he grew up in a Christian family. He was saved in 1970 during evangelistic meetings at his church. He attended Cedarville College where he majored in Bible and Grace Seminary where he received his Th.M. He and Pam met at Cedarville, and were married a year later. Before joining the Word of Life Hungary team in 1990, he held pastorates in Christiansburg , OH and South Bend , Indiana
Pam was also born into a Christian family, and was saved at the age of 12 after Jack Van Impe did a series on the Second Coming at their church. She made several decisions at camp over the years as a teenager, but felt no specific calling to a field. During her two years at Cedarville College , she grew in her commitment to the Lord. Her husband's call and commitment to Hungary is hers as well.
The Konyas first went to Hungary in 1992. When Alex and Pam first went to WOL Hungary it was to start the WOL of Life Bible Institute with the purpose of training future church leaders. They started with nothing, no curriculum, no textbooks. They had to write all their materials in both English and Hungarian. They put together a guest lecturer program. Alex became the Academic Dean, and was the main Bible teacher. He also had an extensive ministry on the weekends in local churches. He became the Director of WOL Hungary in 2004. Pam serves as the main librarian. Alex also holds classes and seminars for pastors elsewhere in Eastern Europe .
