Nature of ministry:

MMS trains men who are going to serve as missionary aviation mechanics. The trainees go for a 30 month program during which they receive hands-on training on live aircraft. These mission aircraft are in need of overhaul, inspection, or modifications, and the work on the planes is done free of any labor charge to Christian missionary organizations. Ian is a team leader, and assists and guides the trainees on his team during their training. Trainees receive a license from the FAA at the end of their training and go on to serve with various missions around the world.

Another aspect of the MMS ministry is the short term mission field assistance of the Rapid Response Corps. These MMS teams help reduce the “‘down time” of an aircraft by providing extra man power for major inspections and repairs. This also provides MMS mechanics the opportunity to experience foreign mission aviation ministries first hand.

Missionary Bio:

Ian was raised in a Christian home. At the age of nine, after being involved in a car accident that almost took his life, his mother explained the plan of salvation to him and he was saved. Since that time, he has had a growing desire to learn more about the things of the Lord.

Ever since his first airplane ride as a little boy, Ian wanted to learn to fly. After hearing several missionary pilots at mission conferences he learned that his desire to fly and maintain airplanes could be used to serve the Lord. He attended Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music where he graduated from the Missionary Aviation Pilot and Mechanic Course, which taught him to fly, and how to use that ability to serve the Lord.

Staci was also raised by Christian parents, who faithfully attended church and taught her about the Lord. At the age of five she accepted the Lord as her Savior one Sunday on the way to church. During Junior High School Staci realized that although she was saved, she needed to live for Him and allow Him to have complete control of her life, and during summer camp she finally came to the point where she was willing to submit to the Lord to do whatever He wanted her to do. During her high school years she became interested in missions after listening to various missionary speakers, and decided to attend Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music, where she specialized in General Ministries and Missions.

Ian and Stacy served with Missionary Flights International in West Palm Beach , Florida from 1989 till 2001. MFI's goal and purpose was to aid missionaries in Haiti and the Dominican Republic . Ian made flights each week to these countries, delivering mail and other good, and providing transportation for missionaries and teams, and was also involved in maintenance on the airplanes.

In 2001 the Hengsts relocated to Ohio and began their ministry with MMS Aviation.
