Nature of ministry:
The goal of Bethesda is to train up HIV/AIDS-affected orphans through family units and quality Christian education so that they will magnify Christ through their lives. They also desire to raise the children in their own culture. Michele has three major areas of responsibility: assistant to the director, maintenance and security, and overseeing teams. The dogs for the security program are taken in as puppies so they will learn to get along with the children. Everyone at Bethesda loves the dogs, and they want the dogs to love them so they will be willing to die for them. They are not pets, but serve a purpose. She tells people to let the dogs handle trouble; save yourself, do not try to save the dog.
When work teams come it takes the whole Bethesda team to handle them, but she overseas the teams while they are there. She also handles administrative tasks, like bank runs and purchasing. Families do their own, but she does the purchasing for maintenance, security, the dogs, and office needs, and works with the budget.
There are currently 4 family units with houseparents and 6 to 8 children each. Eventually, the goal would be to house several hundred children.

Missionary Bio:
Michele was exposed to working with children through her parents' ministry with Baptist Children's Home, and has been interested in children's ministries for years. God moved in her heart to work with children who are hurting, but she wasn't sure where that would lead. She was never interested in missions until she was in college and realized that missions could mean ministry to children. She looked at a number of ministries but none were a fit. Eight months after she graduated from college, she learned about Bethesda and it was obvious that this was what the Lord wanted her to do.
