Marty & Brenda Dittmar - USA- back - April 2009 Dear Friends of Kedler and Friends of our Ministry at Purdue,
Over the 17 years of ministering down in Haiti with students from Kossuth St. Baptist and Purdue, we have had opportunity to know many people. One of those who has stood out always was a young man named, Jean Kedler Abelard. Every year we watched this outstanding young man grow up and become a fine Christian fellow. He has gone through the whole school system at Double Harvest in Haiti, works on the compound with their computers and also is a faithful member and worker in the local church there.
Many folks who have an interest in Haiti and specifically, Kedler, have come together to help give him some higher education. We have been exploring many possible avenues of education for him. We looked into schools in Haiti, the Dominican Republic and in the USA. We have come to the conclusion that having him come to the States would be the best option and the best quality of education. Our desire is to see him equipped in Computer Technology so that he can return to Haiti and have a good part in ministry and work to help Double Harvest and the church in Haiti.
Over the last year, he has been in the States on three occasions working on his GED.
I have some great news...
1) Kedler passed the GED! This is super news.
2) We are actively beginning the process for him to study for the two years at Ivy Tech in Lafayette. I met with the Admission Department. We have the info for him to complete. I believe Kedler has already sent the application to Ivy Tech with the hope that he will be able to attend the fall classes. If the timing doesn't allow that, he will come and begin in the Spring semester.
3) Because he passed the GED in the States, the English TOFEL exam will be waved, Ivy Tech has told us. This is a big time and money saver!
4) Brenda and I will be hosting him during his studies. We are happy to have him in our home. We thought that next year we would be empty nesters, but Lord willing, that will be put off for a couple of years.
5) My mission (Evangelical Baptist Mission) has approved Kedler's education as one of our PROJECTS. This means that EBM can receive funds for him officially and issue tax deductible receipts. When you send in gifts, send a note that they are for Kedler's education Fund at Ivy Tech Lafayette. If you have already send funds to Source of Light, those will be sent on to the EBM fund. Did anyone already send money to Source of Light for Kedler? Let me know so that we can make sure it is transferred over for Kedler. Pastor Spalding in Haiti is with Source of Light and is helping us to determine if funds have come in to that organization for Kedler.
From now on, send your gifts for Kedler's education (made out to EBM) to US Mail:
EBM
PO Box 781438
Indianapolis, IN 46278
Be sure to include a note that the funds are for Kedler's Education Project.
(Online giving instructions below in the PS)
Kedler's NEED yearly (as it looks right now):
1) Approximately $6000 for tuition at Ivy Tech
2) Books and insurance
3) $100 per month for bus pass and some spending money
4) Brenda and I are not asking for anything at this point to house and feed him. We will come back to you if we feel that there is a need for help with this in the future. Right now we want to just see how it goes.
Needless to say, Kedler is very excited. PRAY for him to work hard at being all that the Lord wants him to be. PRAY for the process of applying to Ivy Tech and for the VISA issues. PRAY that his time here will be more than an education academically, but also a spiritual education as he participates at Kossuth St. Baptist and in the college ministry.
It is imperative that this fund be large enough to prove that Kedler's needs will be meet while studying here. The Government won't issue a student visa without a clear affidavit showing that his needs will be met. Brenda and I will be filling one out to attest to his room and board.
God bless you as you consider what to give to Kedler's education fund.
GREAT DAYS AHEAD ALWAYS!
Marty and Brenda
