October 2009
Conferences, Daily Vacation Bible Schools in almost all of the churches, all-church picnics, all-church Men's and Women's meetings, Saturday Good News clubs, and many meetings in the homes. Some weeks I would have only one night at home which was good! I love our home in Uberaba, but without my sweetheart there it gets awfully lonely sometimes. The best remedy for me is to be active in visitation or participation in church activities with our people.
In May the Maranatha church asked me to assume the preaching responsibilities at the church until they could call a new pastor. At the time it looked like a long-term assignment because the church had run down to just a handful of faithful members, but shortly they began to take up the challenge to get the work moving ahead again. Good News Club was started up again on Saturday which gave a boost to the Sunday School attendance, and Monday night men's meetings began growing every week until soon the wives were asking to join. The last couple of months we were having meetings in the homes of men who invited all their neighbors, which was exciting! The women also began meeting regularly on Tuesday evenings, which opened many opportunities.
In August, the church called Pastor Cleoson and his wife Claudia to come to Maranatha. Their installation service was on the 22nd. The church was full, and people were excited to have a new pastor and family to lead them. I was praising the Lord for answering our prayers in such a timely manner! I have known this pastor for a number of years, and he seems to be a perfect fit for the church family at Maranatha. Now I can take this short furlough with the assurance that for the time being we have good leadership in all the churches.
I say "for the time being" because the pastor of the Faith Baptist Church just recently received a call to a church in the neighboring city of Uberlandia and may be leaving at the end of the year. This may mean that the church will need to have a missionary pastor helping out for a while until they can get everything resolved and call a new pastor. Please pray for Pastor Edson and Dona Raimunda and the Faith church as they are facing this challenge right now.
Thank you so much for your faithful prayer and support of the church planting ministry in Uberaba and all of Brazil. Soon the Lord of the Harvest will be here, and the results of all our labor together will be revealed for our rejoicing together forever!
Jesus is coming soon! With love and prayers for you,
Dan Brower
